The All Progressives Congress (APC) has screened Dr. Baba Abubakar Suleiman to contest its governorship primary election in Bauchi State ahead of the 2027 polls.
Suleiman, a founding member of the APC from Azare in Katagum Local Government Area, is a seasoned politician and former Minority Leader of the Bauchi State House of Assembly.
Speaking to reporters after the screening on Saturday in Abuja, Suleiman said the exercise was conducted in line with the party’s constitution and internal guidelines for nominations. He added that he had fulfilled all constitutional and procedural requirements to participate in the governorship race.
He commended the APC leadership for what he described as a transparent, credible, and rigorous process aimed at strengthening internal democracy and ensuring quality leadership within the party.
“I am honoured to have successfully gone through this important constitutional process of our great party. This exercise further strengthens confidence in the democratic values and internal structures of the APC,” the aspirant said.
Suleiman also praised the APC leader in Bauchi State, Coordinating Minister of Health Prof. Mohammed Ali Pate, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for their exemplary leadership and developmental achievements, which he said have bolstered public confidence in the party nationwide.
“My decision to run stems from a deep commitment to the progress of our state and the belief that, through inclusive governance and strategic innovation, we can unlock Bauchi’s vast potential,” he said. “From our fertile agricultural belt to the energy of our youth, the state is rich in both resources and spirit.”
Outlining his vision, Suleiman said it is centered on sustainable development, economic empowerment, and social justice. His priorities include: “Revitalising agriculture by transforming traditional farming into a modern value chain to ensure food security and create jobs; enhancing education and healthcare to ensure every citizen, regardless of location, has access to quality schooling and functional medical facilities; building infrastructure for growth through improved roads, power supply, and digital networks to attract investment and support local entrepreneurship.
“Bauchi State stands at a pivotal crossroads,” he said. “I offer a leadership approach that is visionary, empathetic, and results-oriented. Together, we can build a state where opportunity is common and prosperity is shared by all.”
Suleiman called on party members and supporters to remain united, disciplined, and focused, stressing that the APC’s success in Bauchi depends on collective effort, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to progress.
Eight aspirants are contesting the APC governorship ticket in Bauchi, including Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, Senator Shehu Buba Umar, Mallam Nura Manu Soro, Kabiru Baba Maaji, Yakubu Abdullahi, Dr. Baba Abubakar Suleiman, and Dr. Bala Maijama’a Wunti.
