The Bauchi State chapter of the African Democratic Congress has endorsed former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as its preferred presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections, citing the need for experienced leadership to tackle Nigeria’s economic and security challenges.
The endorsement was announced on Sunday during a stakeholders’ meeting in Bauchi, where party leaders, youth and women groups, professionals, and other members unanimously backed Atiku after consultations across the state.
Speaking at the event, Bauchi State ADC Chairman Alhaji Shu’aibu Abdullahi Dankama said the decision followed a careful assessment of Nigeria’s socio-economic situation and the search for credible leadership ahead of 2027.
“We have carefully assessed the present condition of our country and the urgent need for rescue, which requires an experienced, courageous, and competent leader,” he said.
Dankama said Nigeria is grappling with economic hardship, unemployment, inflation, insecurity, and public frustration, adding that only experienced leadership could reverse the trend.
“Our people are yearning for leadership with vision, compassion, experience, and national acceptance. After careful consideration, we are convinced that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has the experience, political maturity, national reach, and democratic credentials to reposition Nigeria on the path of progress, unity, stability, and prosperity,” he stated.
The endorsement positions Atiku as a key opposition figure in the 2027 election. Dankama cited Atiku’s record in governance and economic reforms during his tenure as Vice President, saying it helped strengthen the private sector and expand economic opportunities.
He praised Atiku’s long-standing commitment to democracy, national unity, restructuring, and inclusive governance, describing him as a politician with consistent national appeal.
“The people of Bauchi State have a long-standing relationship with the Wazirin Adamawa. We recognize his contributions to national development and his continued commitment to the welfare of ordinary Nigerians,” he added.
Dankama described the endorsement as a vote of confidence in Atiku’s capacity to provide “transparent and purposeful leadership” that can restore public trust in governance.
“On behalf of the leadership and members of the African Democratic Congress in Bauchi State, I assure our presidential candidate of our total support, loyalty, and commitment to ensuring victory for our party in the 2027 general elections,” he said.
The chairman urged members to remain united and disciplined, stressing that success would depend on grassroots mobilization, sacrifice, and collective effort. He also called on youths and women to take an active role in the political process, saying their participation would be decisive in shaping Nigeria’s future.
