2027: Ex-Bauchi Gov Abubakar picks APC governorship nomination forms

Former Governor of Bauchi State, Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, has purchased the Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to contest the Bauchi State governorship election in 2027.

Abubakar said the move reflects his commitment to the party’s established processes and internal democratic principles.

“This step underscores my disciplined adherence to the party’s laid-down procedures and my unwavering belief in the APC’s internal democratic mechanisms,” he said.

He expressed support for the party’s position on adopting either consensus or direct primaries for selecting governorship candidates, but said he favors the consensus method.

According to him, consensus can promote internal unity, reduce the high costs and logistical challenges of direct primaries, and minimize the risk of litigation and defections by aggrieved aspirants. It also helps produce “the right candidate” by aligning with the popular will of party members.

Abubakar urged aspirants to come together and agree on a single candidate to prevent factions after the primaries and ensure a united front for the general election, as many stakeholders have suggested.

“I am confident this approach will deepen participatory democracy, strengthen party cohesion, and give every member a sense of ownership in the emergence of candidates,” he said.

He reaffirmed his loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and to the APC leadership at both national and state levels.

“I reaffirm my profound respect, loyalty, and unwavering commitment to the National Leader of the APC, President Bola Tinubu. I also extend my highest regards to the leadership of the party in Bauchi State, its distinguished elders, and all recognized leaders whose guidance continues to shape the progressive ideals of the APC,” he added.

The governorship aspirant thanked party stakeholders and supporters for their backing and pledged to implement legacy projects if elected as the next governor of the state.
