6 people killed, 16 injured in Bauchi road accident

Six people have died and 16 others injured in accident that occurred at Sabuwar Miya on the Kafin Madaki-Ningi federal highway.

The accident involved a white Toyota Hiace bus with registration number BA124 AO6.

The Bauchi State Sector Commander of the Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC) Yusuf Abdullahi confirmed that six people were killed while 16 others were injured in the Christmas morning crash. 

Abdullahi said the number of people involved in the accident was 22 comprising two male adults, four male children, 10 female adults and six female children. 

He said “The casualties were two male adults, two male children, eight female adults and four female children while the six people killed were two female adults, two male children and two female children.

The nature of the injury were bruises and fracture. The probable cause of the crash was TBT (tyre burst).

“According to a FIR from RS 12.12 Ganjuwa Station Officea update of the Sector Command of the Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC), the fatal crash occurred on Sunday, at about 11:50am while operatives of the FRSC arrived at the scene at 12:15PM giving a response time of 20 minutes. 

“After the obstruction was cleared, the victims were taken to Kafin Madaki General Hospital for confirmation of death and treatment of the injured while the seriously injured were referred to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) for further treatment”. 

In a new development, commercial vehicle drivers have been advised to avoid over-speeding, overloading, night journeys and dangerous overtaken in order to minimise casualties in the event of crash. 

Bauchi State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Yusuf Abdullahi gave the advice when he addressed the drivers at the Awala Motor park, Bauchi in continuation of the enlightenment and education on the Operation Zero-in for the Christmas and New Year Celebrations. 

The Sector Commander who was represented at the occasion by the Sector Head of Public Education, advised drivers to always abide by the rules and regulations of driving. 

On his own, the PEO of the Special Marshall, SM Mukaila Adeyemi, advised operators of Commercial tricycles to avoid overspeeding and overloading stressing that such will only increase accidents. 

He also advised them not to compete with vehicles on the road telling them to always drive on the outer lane in order to avoid collision with vehicles. 

Chairman of Awalah Motor Park, Muhammadu Lawan commended the FRSC for the enlightenment and education assuring that his drivers are law abiding and obedient to all traffic rules and regulations.
