Bandits kill seven soldiers in Zamfara ambush

No fewer than seven soldiers have been killed in an ambush by bandits in Zamfara State, multiple sources have confirmed to Dateline Nigeria.

Dozens of civilan residents were also killed by the heavily armed bandits in the attack on Monday, it was also learnt

The soldiers, a source said, were attacked on their way to Dangulbi community in Maru Local Government Area of the state.

A vigilante, who does not want his identity revealed, said “The soldiers were responding to call for help in the community when they were ambushed. Seven of them were killed.”

“I personally saw some dead bodies being evacuated,” he added.

A journalist based in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital also confirmed the casualty figure, adding that “about 15 residents of the community we also killed by the bandits who stormed the area in large numbers.”

The Zamfara State Police Command could not be reached for comment.

Dateline Nigeria reports that Zamfara State is battling with banditry which has left many people dead and displaced.
