NHIA state coordinators in North East tasked on synergy

The Director National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), North East Zone Pharm. Muhammed Ghali Musa has charged all the NHIA State Coordinators in the Zone to work hard towards archieving the Universal Health Coverage.

The call was made during the NHIA Zonal Peer Review Meeting at Yola, Adamawa State.

He said by the signing of the new NHIA Act in May, 2022 the Authority has the power now to regulate, promote and integrate health insurance in the country.

Pharm Musa also urged the State Coordinators to strengthen collaboration and synergy with their respective States Health Insurance Agencies (SSHIA) to expedite the coverage of the various segment of the populations in the Zone.

He stated that another way for ensuring that no one is left behind, Group Individual and Family Social Health Insurance Programme (GIFSHIP) is the answer.

He explained that the programme was launched by NHIA to ensure those that are not covered by the other NHIA programmes can access healthcare by registering to this programme.

Small enterprises, associations, unions, self employed persons, retirees, foreigners etc can be enrolled into the GIFSHIP by the payment of an affordable fee.

The meeting was attended by high ranking NHIA Officials, including the Deputy Director North East Zone Alh. Dabo I. Abdullahi, and Hajiya Maimuna Jamal Assistant Director all representing the North East Zone

Additionally, state coordinators of Adamawa, Borno, Bauchi, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe were present at the meeting.

Various archievements and challenges were extensively highlighted. Recommendations that would ensure the attainment of the Universal Health Coverage in the Zone have alsp been provided as part the resolutions of the meeting.
