Minister resigns over certificate forgery scandal

Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology Geoffrey Uche Nnaji has resigned after certificate forgery scandal.

Confirming the resignation in a statement on Tuesday, presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has accepted the resignation.

“He resigned today in a letter thanking the President for allowing him to serve Nigeria.

“Nnaji said he has been a target of blackmail by political opponents.

“President Tinubu thanked him for his service and wished him well in future endeavours,” Onanuga said in the statement, with mentioning the forgery scandal.

Dateline Nigeria reports that an online newspaper PREMIUM TIMES had published a report about how the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), disowned the Bachelor of Science degree certificate in the possession of the former minister.

According to the report, the embattled politician did not complete his studies at the institution and was never issued a certificate.

It added that authorities at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) also disowned the certificate of national service being paraded by Nnaji.
