12 die in Kano road accident

Authorities in Kano State have confirmed the death of 12 persons as a result of accident which occurred on Saturday in Darki town, Wudil local government area of the state.

The accident involved a Kano Line bus with 16 passengers and a heavy duty vehicle working on a road construction project.

The driver of the heavy duty vehicle was said to have made a sudden turn in the middle of the highway, and the Kano bus driver crashed into it.

The Director of Kano Line, Alhaji Sa’idu Abdullahi Shu’aibu, expressed sorrow over the tragedy.

He said, “Out of the 16 passengers on board, 12 reportedly died instantly, including two Kano Line drivers identified as Alhaji Sabo and Alhaji Dan Azumi.

“Five other passengers (four women and one man) sustained severe injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.”

“We are heartbroken by this unfortunate accident. Our prayers are with the victims’ families, and we extend our condolences to His Excellency, the Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, over this tragic loss,” Shu’aibu said.

He further prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased and called for improved road safety measures to prevent future occurrences.

The MD noted that authorities have since launched an investigation into the cause of the crash.
