The Federal Government of Nigeria has deepened collaboration with the Government and private sector of Germany to strengthen Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and promote structured labour migration initiatives.
During a strategic meeting with the Delegation of German Industry and Commerce (AHK Nigeria) led by Dr. Matthias Leder, the Honourable Minister of Education, Chief (Dr.) Maruf Tunji Alausa, FAMedS, CON, stated that the partnership aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda on youth empowerment and job creation.
Dr. Alausa revealed that the Ministry’s new TVET initiative provides six to twelve months of practical training for graduates and school leavers without employable skills. Implemented across Federal Technical Colleges, the programme has recorded a 400% increase in enrollment. He emphasized that the collaboration with Germany ensures Nigerian youths acquire globally recognized technical skills through the dual vocational training model that combines classroom learning with industrial experience.
Dr. Leder reiterated Germany’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s skills development and creating structured, legal labour migration channels for mutual benefit.
Also present, Alhaji Lai Mohammed commended the partnership, noting that it reflects the Minister’s vision that education must combine knowledge with practical skills. Both sides agreed to form a Joint Technical Working Group to oversee implementation and harmonize standards between both countries.
