Police arraign eight suspected child traffickers in Minna

Eight suspected child traffickers have been arraigned before the Minna Chief Magistrate’s Court by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad of the Niger State Police Command over alleged child trafficking and other related offences.

The suspects, who were arrested in Nasarawa State and parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), are accused of stealing children from communities in Niger State and selling them for sums of up to ₦1.1 million.

Police prosecutors informed the court that investigations revealed the children were allegedly abducted from areas including Lambata and Sabon Wuse, and sold to buyers who reportedly knew the children were stolen.

All eight defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges, which include kidnapping, human trafficking and wrongful confinement.

The Chief Magistrate consequently ordered that the suspects be remanded at the Minna Old Correctional Centre and adjourned the case to January 5, 2026, for further hearing.
