The President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has asked the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate the immediate past Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) Farouk Ahmed.
This is coming a day after the Africa’s richest person withdrew the petition he filed before the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) accusing Ahmed of corruption and living beyond his legitimate means.
The ICPC however vowed to continue with its investigation.
In the fresh petition, Dangote urged the EFCC chairman Ola Olukoyede to probe Ahmed for “financial misconduct, violation of the code of conduct for public officers, and related offences”.
“We make bold to state that the commission is strategically positioned along with sister agencies to prosecute financial crimes and corruption related offences and upon establishing a prima facie case, the courts do not hesitate to punish offenders. See Lawan v. F.R.N (2024) 12 NWLR (Pt. 1953) 501 and Shema v. F.R.N. (2018) 9 NWLR (Pt.1624)337,” the petition reads.
Dateline Nigeria reports that Dangote had in December accused Ahmed of spending over $7 million on the education of his four children in Switzerland for six years.
He said the former NMDPRA boss needed to explain how he was able afford that considering his career as a public servant.
