Indecent dressing: Lawyer urges parents to act

An Ilorin-based legal practitioner, Jimoh Abdulquadri, has urged parents to pay closer attention to their children’s dressing habits as part of efforts to curb indecent dressing in society.

Abdulquadri gave the advice during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Saturday in Ilorin.

He decried the practice of parents allowing their children to wear whatever clothes they prefer without proper guidance.

According to him, although children may insist on their preferred fashion choices, parents have a responsibility to guide and correct them where necessary.

“Indecent dressing in our society is gradually becoming the norm and must be discouraged.

“Parents must begin from their homes by frowning on indecent dressing among their children.

“The moral standard in society has been eroded partly due to the increasing trend of indecent dressing.

“Parents should guide their children and avoid buying transparent clothes for them in the name of love,” he said.

The lawyer also urged parents to discourage their children from wearing revealing outfits in public.

He stressed the need for parents to teach their children the importance of decent dressing rather than exposing their bodies in public places.

Abdulquadri added that dressing half-naked does not make anyone socially acceptable but instead portrays a lack of proper upbringing and home training.(NAN)
