Former Anambra State Governor and 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has donated ₦25 million to the University of the Niger, Umunya, to support scholarships and educational development at the five-year-old institution.
Obi made the donation on Thursday, May 7, 2026, during a visit to the university as part of his ongoing commitment to education, healthcare, and poverty alleviation.
The visit marked his annual engagement with the university, following his last trip to its teaching hospital in Ogidi.
Addressing students, Obi urged them to remain focused on their studies, stressing that “the world today is driven by knowledge, and the future of Nigeria rests in the hands of young people like them.”
He commended the Diocese on the Niger for its vision and commitment to institutional growth, and praised Vice Chancellor Prof. Chinedu Nebo for his dedication to advancing education through the establishment and strengthening of schools and institutions.
“I remain fully committed to the growth of education and the development of students in our country because no nation can rise beyond the strength of its education and human capital,” Obi said.
