The Anambra State Police Command says it has identified and taken into custody a police officer allegedly linked to the death of a three-month-old baby in Okija.
In a statement on Thursday, the Command said it had commenced a full-scale investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure justice is served.
Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, expressed regret over the incident and commiserated with the family of the deceased child.
He assured the public that the Command would handle the matter transparently and professionally.
“The officer involved is currently undergoing interrogation and other administrative procedures in line with the Nigeria Police Force disciplinary processes,” the statement said.
The Command urged residents to remain calm and avoid actions that could incite tension, stressing that no individual found culpable would be shielded from justice.
