The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has declared former Zamfara Deputy Governor, Mahdi Aliyu-Gusau, winner of its governorship primary election in the state.
Mr Namadi Musa, Chairman of the ADC Governorship Primaries Committee, announced the results of the primaries on Saturday in Gusau.
Musa said Mahdi Aliyu-Gusau, son of retired Gen. Aliyu Gusau, defeated two other aspirants who contested for the ticket.
The former deputy governor polled 35,665 votes defeating Abdul’mutallab Ahmed-Mohammed with 15,922 votes, while Shehu Ahmed Musa scored 7,642 votes.
“Mahdi Aliyu-Gusau, having scored the highest votes and having met the guidelines of the 2026 Electoral Act and the requirements of the party, is hereby declared winner of the primary election,” Musa stated.
Musa also announced Shehu Rafi as the party’s flag-bearer for Zamfara North Senatorial District.
He declared Mr Atiku Abubakar-Saleh as the candidate for Zamfara West and Mr Mika’ila Bello as the candidate for Zamfara Central Senatorial District in the 2027 elections.
For the House of Representatives, the returning officer announced Nura Mohammed as flag-bearer for Zurmi/Shinkafi Federal Constituency, Bashir Abubakar for Kaura Namoda/Birnin Magaji, and Mohammed Mustapha for Bakura/Maradun.
Others include Umar Faru for Gummi/Bukkuyum, Isiaka Ibrahim Anka for Anka/Talata Mafara, and Abubakar Abdullahi for Gusau/Tsafe Federal Constituency.
Musa, however, noted that the ADC had no candidate for Maru/Bungudu Federal Constituency, as no aspirant from the area obtained the party’s nomination form.
Chairman of the ADC in Zamfara, Shehu Maishanu, thanked party members for the successful conduct of the primary elections across the state.
Maishanu urged members of the ADC to remain law-abiding and work towards the party’s victory in the 2027 general elections. (NAN)(
