Gwarzo emerges Kano NDC governorship candidate, Gawuna gets Senate ticket

Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo has emerged the Kano governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 elections.

Former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, who disclosed this in Kano on Friday, also named Nasiru Gawuna as the party’s candidate for the Kano Central Senatorial seat.

Dateline Nigeria reports that Gwarzo, an longstanding ally of Kwankwaso, recently resigned as Kano deputy governor after Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf joined the APC. disclosed this in a statement issued on his handle on Friday.

Gawuna, on the other hand, was deputy governor under Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. He was also the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the 2023 election

Kwankwaso said the decision followed consultations within the party and was guided by the principles of equity, fairness, loyalty and competence.

“I am delighted to announce that His Excellency, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo has been selected as our Kano NDC gubernatorial candidate for the upcoming elections.

“Similarly, Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna will contest for the Kano Central Senatorial Seat.

“This decision was made in the spirit of equity, fairness, loyalty, and competence — values that remain central to our party and Kwankwasiyya’s progress and unity,” Kwankwaso said in a statement on his social media handle.

“As we proceed with today’s affirmation exercise, I pray for a seamless, peaceful, and successful process. May Almighty Allah grant us resounding victory in the forthcoming elections,” he added.
