Tambuwal condemns killing of 17 by bandits in Sokoto, urges security agencies to act

Former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has condemned the latest bandit attack on Dangulbi community in Tureta Local Government Area, describing the killing of 17 residents as “painful and unacceptable.”

Tambuwal, now the Senator representing Sokoto South, Aminu Tambuwal, spoke through a statement on Wednesday.

He said he was “deeply saddened and heartbroken” by the assault, which left no fewer than 17 people dead, properties destroyed, and several families displaced.

“I am deeply saddened and heartbroken by the recent bandit attacks on the Dangulbi community in Tureta Local Government Area of Sokoto State, which claimed innocent lives, destroyed property, and displaced families,” the Senator said.

He decried the recurring attacks across the state, calling them a direct threat to peace and security. “These repeated attacks on innocent citizens are painful, unacceptable, and a direct assault on the peace and security of our communities,” he added.

Tambuwal extended condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the victims. “My thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who lost their loved ones, those injured, and all residents affected by this tragic incident,” he said.

“I pray that Almighty Allah forgives the shortcomings of the deceased, grants them Aljannatul Firdausi, gives their families the strength and patience to bear these painful losses, and grants quick recovery to those injured. I also pray for the safe return of all those abducted.”

The lawmaker called on security agencies to step up operations and strengthen protection for vulnerable communities, especially along the Sokoto-Zamfara axis where armed groups have maintained a deadly presence.

“I call on security agencies to intensify efforts towards restoring peace and strengthening protection for vulnerable communities across the Sokoto-Zamfara axis,” Tambuwal said. “Our people deserve to live in safety and pursue their livelihoods without fear.”

He further urged residents to remain united and support genuine efforts to end banditry and restore stability. “We must remain united and resolute in supporting every genuine effort aimed at ending banditry and restoring lasting peace to our communities,” he concluded.

Dangulbi is the latest community hit by bandit violence in Sokoto, a state that shares borders with Zamfara, another epicenter of armed attacks in the North-West.
