The Kebbi State Hisbah Board says it has foiled a planned “Sign Out” gathering organised by male and female students at the old Ministry for Women’s Affairs building in Birnin Kebbi.
In a statement signed by its Assistant Secretary, Abubakar S. S., the Board said it received a confidential tip-off that the event, which it described as contrary to Islamic teachings, was scheduled to hold in the state capital.
“Upon receiving this report, the Hisbah Board immediately deployed its operatives to stop the event,” the statement said.
According to the Board, its operatives successfully prevented the mixed-gender gathering before it commenced.
“Alhamdulillah, the Hisbah operatives successfully foiled this gathering of men and women before it was held,” the statement added.
The Hisbah Board used the opportunity to appeal to parents and guardians to be more vigilant over their children.
“We are once again calling on parents and guardians to intensify monitoring of their children, and ensure they stay away from anything that contradicts the teachings of Islam and good morals,” it said.
The Board concluded with prayers for the guidance and protection of children in the state.
“We pray to Allah, the Most High, to continue to guide our children and protect them from anything that will harm their religion and upbringing. Ameen.”
“Sign Out” events are end-of-session celebrations commonly held by secondary school and tertiary students in Nigeria, and have been repeatedly condemned over display of immorality and indecent acts.
