The Federal Government of Nigeria has called for immediate de-escalation of the crisis between the Houthis in Yemen and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, warning that further escalation could undermine regional peace and stability.
In a press statement released on Sunday, July 26, 2026, by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja, Nigeria said it is watching with “deep concern” the ongoing tensions and reported attacks between both parties.
Signed by the Ministry’s Spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, anipr, the statement urged all parties to exercise maximum restraint and refrain from actions that could inflame hostilities or endanger civilian lives.
“Nigeria strongly calls on all parties to exercise maximum restraint, immediately de-escalate the situation, and refrain from any further actions that could inflame hostilities or endanger civilian lives and regional peace and stability,” the statement read.
The Federal Government also urged the parties to prioritise dialogue, diplomacy, and peaceful means of resolving differences in line with the principles of the United Nations Charter and international law.
“Nigeria believes that any further escalation of the conflict risks undermining regional security and stability,” it added.
Reaffirming its position, Nigeria said it remains committed to the peaceful settlement of disputes and is ready to support genuine efforts aimed at reducing tensions and restoring calm in the region.
“The Federal Government of Nigeria therefore reaffirms its steadfast commitment to the peaceful settlement of disputes and expresses its readiness to support all genuine and constructive efforts aimed at reducing tensions, restoring calm and promoting lasting peace and stability in the region.”
The statement comes amid renewed reports of cross-border attacks between Houthi forces in Yemen and Saudi Arabia, which have raised concerns over the humanitarian situation and security in the Middle East.
