Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Olayemi Cardoso, and Director-General of the World Trade Organisation, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, will headline a high-level fireside dialogue at the 7th Africa Emerging Markets Forum scheduled for Abuja this week.
The two-day forum, themed “Building Resilience Amidst Geoeconomic Uncertainties,” will bring together global policymakers, economists, and business leaders to discuss practical strategies for strengthening Africa’s economic resilience and driving long-term growth.
The event will hold from 29–30 July 2026 at the CBN Headquarters, Abuja.
Organisers said the fireside session with Cardoso and Okonjo-Iweala will focus on how African economies can navigate rising global trade tensions, inflation, debt pressures, and shifting geopolitical alliances.
Cardoso is expected to speak on monetary policy, financial stability, and reforms aimed at stabilizing Nigeria’s economy, while Okonjo-Iweala will address trade, multilateral cooperation, and Africa’s role in the global economy.
Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele and Founding Director and Chief Executive, Emerging Markets Forum Harinder S. Kohli are also expected at the discussions which will focus on monetary policy, trade under AfCFTA, fiscal reforms, debt management, and strategies to shield African economies from external shocks.
The Africa Emerging Markets Forum, now in its 7th edition, has become a key platform for dialogue on investment, policy, and development across the continent. Previous editions have featured central bank governors, finance ministers, and CEOs from across Africa and beyond.
With growing concerns over global economic fragmentation, this year’s edition is expected to focus on solutions around regional trade under AfCFTA, access to finance, infrastructure, and building buffers against external shocks.
The forum is expected to draw participation from government officials, development institutions, investors, and private sector leaders.
