The Kano State Police Command has recovered two stolen motor vehicles and handed them over to their owners, following intelligence-led operations by the Special Intervention Squad, SIS.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the recoveries were in line with the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu’s community-centred policing strategy.
According to the statement, on 26 July 2026 at about 10:35pm, one Zaiyyad Farouk of Hotoro Quarters reported that his White Toyota Hilux with Reg. No. KMC 25 was stolen along Lamido Crescent, Tarauni LGA after his driver parked it.
SIS operatives tracked the vehicle and recovered it in the possession of one Abdussalam Salisu of Kurna Asabe Quarters, Kano. The vehicle has been handed over to the rightful owner after verification. Police said efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspect and his accomplices.
The Command also recovered a Black Hyundai Elantra without a registration number that was stolen on 10 July 2026 at Annur Mosque, Abuja.
Acting on intelligence, SIS operatives tracked the suspects to Dutse LGA, Jigawa State. On 22 July 2026 at about 9:00pm, during a coordinated tactical operation, the suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled on sighting the police.
Preliminary findings indicate the suspect is a member of a notorious syndicate operating across Abuja, Kaduna, and Kano States. The vehicle has been processed and is being handed over to the rightful owner in Abuja. Police said efforts have been intensified to arrest the fleeing suspects and their receivers to recover more exhibits and dismantle the syndicate.
The Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, commended the SIS officers for their professionalism and swift action.
CP Bakori reiterated the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property through proactive and intelligence-driven policing. He urged members of the public to secure their vehicles and provide timely information to the police, and assured that all fleeing suspects will be brought to book.
