Senator Simon Bako Lalong, representing Plateau South Senatorial District, has joined the Chairman and Members of the Senate Public Accounts Committee (SPAC) at a Special Legislative Oversight and Public Hearing on the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) Oil and Gas Industry Audit Reports for 2021, 2022 and 2023.
Senator Lalong, who is a member of the Committee, actively participated in the proceedings, which focused on strengthening transparency and accountability in Nigeria’s extractive industry, particularly with regard to revenue remittances, financial management and compliance with established regulations.
The Special Public Hearing provided an opportunity for the Committee to scrutinise the findings and recommendations contained in the NEITI audit reports and engage relevant stakeholders on measures required to address identified gaps and improve the management of the nation’s oil and gas resources.
Senator Lalong reiterated the importance of effective legislative oversight in ensuring that revenues accruing to the country from the extractive sector are properly accounted for and transparently managed in the interest of Nigerians.
The Senate Public Accounts Committee reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the implementation of recommendations contained in the NEITI audit reports, stressing that stronger accountability mechanisms are essential to protecting public resources and promoting good governance in the oil and gas sector.
Senator Lalong’s participation underscores his continued commitment to effective legislative oversight, accountability and reforms aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s economy and ensuring that the nation’s natural resources are managed for the benefit of present and future generations.
