Over one million opioid pills intercepted, 4.6 tonnes of skunk destroyed nationwide, NDLEA says

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, says its operatives have made significant arrests and seizures across Kwara, Oyo, Delta, Plateau, Kano and Edo states in the past week, including the destruction of 4,628.9kg of skunk on two cannabis farms in Edo.

According to a statement on Sunday, 16th August 2026, signed by the Director, Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, the operations were carried out between 10th and 14th August.

Kwara and Oyo
In Kwara, Abubakar Adamu, 50, and Bilyaminu Nuhu, 30, were arrested on Thursday, 13th August at Kam Wire area of Ilorin with 55.96kg of skunk concealed in a truck marked DKA 350 XL.

In Oyo, Abdulfatai Oyelaran, 70, and Abdulrauf Ajadi, 50, were nabbed on Wednesday, 12th August along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, Ibadan. Recovered from their Toyota Sienna marked FFA-115KA were 52,000 ampoules of pentazocine injection and 6,000 ampoules of tramadol injection.

Delta and Asaba
Along the Onitsha/Asaba expressway on Thursday, 13th August, Osaro Ikpoba, 43, and Samuel Godbless, 18, were arrested with a total of 124,100 pills of tramadol; 786 bottles of codeine syrup; 2,598 tablets of rohypnol; 4,800 tablets of diazepam; 470 ampoules of pentazocine injection and 200 ampoules of tramadol injection.

On Wednesday, 12th August, Emeka Tony, 50, was nabbed along Kwale/Ozoro expressway with 1,244 pieces of cartridges and N8,000,000 cash.

Plateau
A Toyota Corolla with registration number MKD 341 EA was intercepted along Riyom/Jos road in Jos. Operatives recovered 239,490 caps of Tramaforce, a brand of tramadol, and arrested the driver, Kasum Sherif.

Kano
On Monday, 10th August, six suspects were arrested along Zaria-Kano road. They are: Okodili Ibeabuchi, 60; Onyeka Vincent, 47; Nwanko Wisdom, 36; Success Chigozie, 30; Emmanuel Jude, 27; and Chinedu Peter, 39.

Recovered from them were 728,958 pills of tramadol, rohypnol and other opioids, 360 grams of cocaine, 99.8 grams of methamphetamine, 50 bottles of codeine syrup and 2.7kg of Loud, a synthetic strain of cannabis.

In another raid on Friday, 14th August at Zawaciki Gida Dubu, Kumbotso LGA, operatives recovered 171 blocks of skunk weighing 106.8kg and arrested Mustapha Iliya, 30, and Abdulwahab Abdulrashid, 24.

Edo
A total of 4,628.9775kg of skunk was destroyed on two cannabis farms measuring 1.851591 hectares at Ugboku/Igbanke forest, Orhionmwon LGA. One Agholor Elebojie, 40, was arrested during the raid on Wednesday, 12th August.

On Friday, 14th August, Kingsley Anigala, 28, was nabbed at Oluku area of Benin City with 25.857kg of Loud and 93 grams of methamphetamine.

WADA Advocacy
The Agency said its War Against Drug Abuse, WADA, sensitization continued nationwide, including lectures delivered to students and staff of Madarasatu Sheikh Muhammad Rabi’u Arabic School, Kano and Olomu Junior Secondary School, Ajah, Lagos.

Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended officers for the arrests and seizures. He also urged all commands to maintain a balance between drug supply reduction and drug demand reduction efforts.
