Tazkiyah University, Kaduna has hosted the 3rd Edition of the UMMUN-NABI Counselling Forum, a monthly lecture series aimed at strengthening the educational, intellectual and moral well-being of students.
The forum, organised by the Tazkiyah Educational Resource Centre, TERC, held with the theme: “Navigating Societal and Religious Expectations: Building Identity, Well-Being and Purpose as a Female University Student.”
It provided a platform for female students to reflect on religious and societal expectations that influence their academic, personal and future decisions.
Welcoming guests at the event, the Vice-Chancellor of Tazkiyah University, Professor Faruk Sarkinfada, emphasised the need to create an educational environment where female students can pursue academic excellence while maintaining sound moral values and a strong sense of responsibility.
He commended TERC for sustaining the UMMUN-NABI Counselling Forum as a platform through which students can address contemporary challenges and receive guidance that supports their academic growth, personal development and moral formation.
Delivering the guest lecture, the Director of the Counselling and Human Development Centre, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Professor Hadiza Ahmed Tukur, engaged the students in an interactive and practical discussion.
She addressed key issues surrounding religious and societal expectations placed on female university students, using real-life situations to encourage them to critically examine the pressures that influence their choices, identity and well-being.
Professor Tukur challenged the students to look beyond societal pressures, understand their responsibilities, protect their well-being and pursue their education and future aspirations with purpose, dignity and confidence.
In his vote of thanks, the Secretary General of TERC, Malam Mujtaba Muhammad, appreciated Allah (SWT) for the success of the programme and expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor, university management, the Guest Speaker, directors, staff and students.
He highlighted major lessons from the lecture, particularly the need for students to distinguish authentic religious guidance from cultural expectations, build a balanced identity, safeguard their well-being and approach their education with purpose.
Other highlights of the event included goodwill messages from university representatives, inspiring poetry presentations, and an engaging question-and-answer session that enabled students to interact directly with the Guest Speaker.
Organisers said the 3rd Edition of the UMMUN-NABI Counselling Forum concluded as an impactful gathering that reaffirmed the university’s commitment to holistic student development.
