The war against drug abuse got a major boost today as the NDLEA Jigawa State Command called on students and young people to take ownership of the fight to build a drug-free society.
Representing the State Commander, CN Hassan Katangana Kabaju, the Assistant State Commander, Admin/Logistics, ACN Abdullahi Wada presented a paper at an event organized by the Nigeria Association of Crime Management Students, (NACMAS), Jigawa State Polytechnic, Dutse.
The paper themed “The Role of Students and Young People in Building a Drug-Free Society”, brought together students, academics, security personnel, community leaders, government representatives and other stakeholders committed to crime prevention and public safety.
In his address, ACN Wada reminded the audience that young people are not just the leaders of tomorrow — they are the first line of defense today.
“Students are the conscience of any society. You see what we in NDLEA sometimes don’t see. You hear what we don’t hear. You know the trends before they become statistics.
> A drug-free society is not built by NDLEA alone. It is also built in classrooms, in hostels, in group chats, and in peer conversations. Say NO to drugs, and say YES to purpose,” he stated.
He further outlined how students can act: by becoming drug-free ambassadors on campus, reporting suspicious activities, mentoring younger ones, and demanding healthy recreational spaces.
The program featured paper presentations, panel discussions, and an interactive session with security agencies.
In recognition of the outstanding efforts of the community engagement, the Association honored me with a “Medal of Good Performance”. The award was presented by the Royal Father of the Day, Alhaji Abubakar Dalha, Dan Ruwatan Kazaure.
Receiving the award ACN Wada dedicated it to the officers and men of NDLEA Jigawa and to all Jigawa youths choosing a path of discipline, productivity and drug free.
“This medal is not for one man. It is for every young person in Jigawa who has said no to drugs. It is a call to do more,”
The event ended with a pledge by NACMAS members to establish “Drug-Free Campus Clubs in partnership with NDLEA jigawa state command.
