The Nigeria Police Force has highlighted its collaboration with the Ghana Police Service in the arrest and repatriation of a murder fugitive, as it joined the world to mark the United Nations International Day of Police Cooperation on Monday, September 7, 2026.
In a statement by Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, the Force said cross-border policing is now critical as criminal networks operate across jurisdictions through cyber fraud, trafficking, and organized crime.
A major success cited was the case of Victor Benjamin Fejemirokum, a murder suspect wanted in connection with the abduction and killing of an FRSC officer and her daughter in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
According to the Police, investigators traced Fejemirokum’s movements through a viral social media video. The trail led to Ghana, where he was located and arrested by the Ghana Police Service.
He was subsequently repatriated to Nigeria to face prosecution.
The Force said the operation demonstrates how “timely intelligence sharing and coordinated action” between Nigeria and Ghana can ensure fugitives do not escape justice by crossing borders.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to deepening cooperation with INTERPOL and partner countries including Ghana.
He noted that information sharing, coordinated investigations, and cross-border operational support are essential to confronting transnational crime and protecting vulnerable persons.
The statement also referenced the arrest of Brazilian cocaine suspect Mark Sunny Okoh in Lagos through international coordination, with extradition proceedings underway.
“The Nigeria Police Force recognises that international police cooperation is an essential component of modern policing,” CSP Iniedu said. “We will continue to strengthen partnerships that enhance intelligence-led policing, support investigations, and protect communities.”
The Force said it remains committed to working with the Ghana Police Service and other international partners to protect lives, support victims, and build safer communities.
