Former North-East Zonal Coordinator of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), Alhaji Adamu Abba Galajen Bauchi, has formally joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Bauchi ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Abba, who is a traditional title holder in Bauchi Emirate, joined the ADC on Saturday as political activities intensify in the state.
The event was witnessed by the ADC Bauchi South Senatorial candidate, Alhaji Garba Dahiru, the State House of Assembly candidate for Bauchi Central, Alhaji Imamu Tukur Ahmed, and other party leaders who welcomed Galaje and his supporters into the party.
Galaje, who retired as a Director in the Federal Civil Service, remains a prominent figure in the state’s opposition politics.
Speaking at the event, Galaje lamented that beneficiaries of democracy are undermining the system and called for commitment from ADC members to win the 2027 general election.
He said the party has credible candidates committed to the development and progress of Bauchi State and Nigeria.
“ADC will not allow democracy to be destroyed. We are committed to unity, security and a better Nigeria. Today our economy is not growing. This does not reflect competent leadership,” he said.
Galaje said Nigeria’s challenges are not insurmountable if leaders embrace unity, competence, commitment, compassion and truthfulness.
“Nigeria is not a poor country. What we lack is competent and honest leadership. Insecurity in the country has reached unprecedented levels. Nigerians must unite and make the necessary changes.
“We must vote for Atiku as President, Halliru Dauda Jika as Bauchi Governor, Garba Dahiru as Bauchi South Senator, Dan Alfa as House of Representatives candidate, Imamu Ahmad Tukur Ahmed as member for Bauchi Central State House of Assembly and other ADC candidates in the state.”
He urged youths to avoid bitter politics and ensure peaceful campaigns, saying they should not abuse or attack anyone but rather explain the leadership qualities of ADC candidates to win acceptance from the electorate.
The Chairman of ADC Bauchi LGA, Alhaji Haruna Sabon Kaura, assured members that integrity, transparency and equal opportunity would remain core values of the party, pledging a level playing field for all aspirants.
He said with support and prayers, the ADC will defeat all other political parties.
He noted that Galaje’s defection brings another established political figure into the party, highlighting its ongoing efforts to expand its presence in Bauchi State ahead of the 2027 elections.
In separate remarks, the Bauchi South Senatorial candidate, Alhaji Garba Dahiru, and the Bauchi Central State House of Assembly candidate, Alhaji Imamu Ahmad Tukur, commended Galaje for his decision.
They described the ADC as the only true opposition party, claiming other parties are campaigning for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
They said the development comes as politicians position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections and adds to the ADC’s growing political organisation in the state.
