Kano police foil N10m ransom collection, neutralize two bandits

The Kano State Police Command has neutralized two suspected bandits and recovered N10 million ransom in Doguwa Local Government Area.

The Command said the operation was carried out under ‘Operation Kukan Kura’, its sustained onslaught against kidnapping, banditry and other violent crimes.

In a press release on Saturday by its Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the Command said three suspected bandits had emerged from Falgore Forest to collect a ransom of N10 million demanded for the release of one Kabiru Aliyu, 45, of Falgore Village, Doguwa LGA.

Aliyu was kidnapped on September 11, 2026 and had spent days in captivity.

According to the statement, on October 17, 2026 at about 0000hrs, the suspects collected the ransom and released the victim unharmed.

“However, while the suspects were returning to their hideout in Falgore Forest shortly after collecting the money, they were ambushed by local hunters known as ‘Yan Bula’,” the statement said.

“During the ambush, two of the suspected bandits were neutralized, while the third suspect escaped with injuries. The entire ransom sum of N10 million was recovered intact from the neutralized suspects.”

Preliminary investigation revealed the identity of one of the neutralized suspects as Dogo Isah, a commercial motorcycle rider (Okada) from Maigwanda Village, Kubau LGA, Kaduna State.

The Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the resilience and commitment of the local hunters, whose efforts continue to complement Operation Kukan Kura in securing the Falgore Forest axis.

The Commissioner has directed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and tactical teams within the axis to immediately comb the area for possible arrest of the fleeing suspect and recovery of their operational weapons.

The rescued victim has been debriefed, medically examined and reunited with his family.
