Police arrest man with locally made pistol in Cross River over assault

The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a man, Sylvester Otu, in Biase Local Government Area for alleged assault and unlawful possession of firearm.

The Command said Otu was arrested following a report by a female resident of Ibiaeh Palm Estate, who alleged that her fiancé subjected her to repeated assaults and threats to her life.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata, on Tuesday, acting on information linking the suspect to suspected membership of the Aye Confraternity, operatives searched his residence on 19th October, 2026.

The search yielded a locally made pistol, two live cartridges and a black beret allegedly associated with the Aye Confraternity.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, said the Command has intensified its crackdown on cultism and illegal firearms, reiterating its commitment to combating cultism, unlawful possession of firearms and violent crimes.

He urged residents to promptly report suspicious activities and threats to security agencies, assuring that the matter will be thoroughly investigated.
