Gov Lawal swears in five new perm secs in Zamfara, tasks them on public service rules

Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has charged newly appointed Permanent Secretaries to be guided by Public Service Rules, financial regulations and all relevant laws in the discharge of their duties.

Governor Lawal gave the charge on Thursday while swearing in five new Permanent Secretaries into the state civil service at the Grand Chamber of Government House, Gusau.

The new Permanent Secretaries are Ahmad S. Zamfara, Nasiru Halilu Anka, Mu’azu Jibril Guraguri, Adamu Abdullahi Kanoma, and Sani Muhammad Shinkafi.

The oath of office was administered by the Chief Judge of Zamfara State, Justice Kulu Aliyu. The appointees swore to be faithful and bear true allegiance to the Federal Republic of Nigeria as enshrined in the Constitution.

Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Lawal said his administration remains committed to strengthening government institutions and ensuring the public service has the leadership, competence and discipline required to drive development.

“I extend my sincere congratulations to the five officers taking this oath today. Your appointments mark a career milestone and reflect confidence in your experience, abilities, and readiness for greater responsibility,” he said.

“Becoming Permanent Secretaries is more than personal advancement: as senior administrative leaders, your decisions and conduct directly affect government performance and the welfare of the people we serve.”

The Governor described the Permanent Secretary as central to government, responsible for providing administrative leadership, institutional continuity, policy advice, maintaining discipline and ensuring public resources serve their intended purposes.

He noted that his administration came with a determination to improve governance and advance a development agenda that meets the needs of the people of Zamfara.

“Our reforms to improve public administration and the delivery of essential services continue, with the civil service as the vehicle through which government decisions are translated into results,” Lawal said.

He further urged the new Permanent Secretaries to approach their assignments with clear understanding of government priorities, stressing proper planning, realistic implementation strategies, effective supervision and continuous assessment.

“Maintain constructive, professional relationships with your commissioners and other political officeholders. Political leaders set policy; career civil servants provide the institutional knowledge, technical advice, and administrative capacity to implement it. These roles complement each other, and the effectiveness of the Government depends on mutual respect,” he added.
