The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 32-year-old man, Ifeanyi Jeremiah Obi, for allegedly stealing mobile phones from hotels in Awka, Isuaniocha and Mgbakwu communities.

The suspect was arrested in the early hours of Saturday, October 25, 2026, by operatives attached to the Amanuke Police Division.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday, October 26.

Ikenga said the arrest followed investigations into reported cases of phone theft and a review of video surveillance footage allegedly linking the suspect to the incidents.

According to him, the suspect confessed during interrogation to stealing five Android phones from hotels in the affected communities.

He said the Command has commenced further investigations to recover the stolen phones and determine the full extent of the alleged offences, including identifying other persons who may be connected.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, reiterated the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state, urging hotel operators, business owners and residents to strengthen security measures and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
