The Nigeria Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has engaged key stakeholders in the ethanol production industry as part of ongoing preparations for the implementation of the Pilot E10 Project in Nigeria.
The stakeholder engagement provided a platform for discussions with major players in ethanol production on the opportunities, requirements and collaborative efforts necessary to support the successful implementation of the initiative.
The Executive Director, Health, Safety, Environment and Community (HSEC), Dr. Mustapha Lamorde, who also chairs the E10 Project, represented the Authority Chief Executive, Mallam Rabiu A. Umar, and delivered the welcome remarks at the engagement.
In his remarks, Dr. Lamorde underscored the importance of stakeholder collaboration in advancing the Pilot E10 Project, highlighting the need for effective coordination among industry players to establish a sustainable framework for its implementation.
The engagement also provided an opportunity for stakeholders to share perspectives on the development of Nigeria’s ethanol production capacity, the readiness of local producers and the necessary industry support systems required to facilitate the introduction of E10 fuel blending.
The Pilot E10 Project involves the blending of 10 per cent ethanol with 90 per cent petrol. The initiative has the potential to diversify Nigeria’s fuel supply options, create new opportunities for domestic ethanol producers and support the development of the country’s biofuel industry.
The engagement reflects NMDPRA’s commitment to working with industry stakeholders to promote innovation, strengthen local production capacity and facilitate the development of a sustainable and efficient midstream and downstream petroleum sector.
Through continued consultation and collaboration, the Authority aims to support the successful implementation of the Pilot E10 Project and explore opportunities for the integration of locally produced ethanol into Nigeria’s petroleum supply chain.
