50 die of ‘strange disease’ in Kogi, FG urges investigation

The Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, yesterday said he directed the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) to investigate the cause of the so-called strange disease that is allegedly responsible for the death of 50 persons in Kogi State.

The minister disclosed this after the FEC meeting in Abuja.

He confirmed that yellow fever is linked to the strange deaths in Enugu, Delta and two other states.

A lawmaker in the state, Anthony Alewo, had on Tuesday told his colleagues that a strange disease killed 50 persons within three months at Etteh village.

But the state’s Commissioner for Health, Saka Audu, on a Channels Television programme yesterday, monitored by our correspondent, said the deaths were recorded in Enugu and not Etteh in Olamaboro Local Government Area of Kogi State.
