Iyan Zazzau Bashar Aminu dies

Iyan Zazzau Bashir Aminu, one of the senior princes that vied for the stool of Zazzau following the death of Dr Shehu Idris, has passed on.

Sources told Dateline Nigeria that Aminu died Friday morning in Lagos after a brief illness. He had a long battle with diabetes.

Among Iya Bashar many children are Kogunan Zazzau Alhaji Abdulkarim Bashir Aminu and Danbarhim Zazzau Alhaji Ahmad Bashir Aminu.

Born in 1951, Bashar Aminu, whose father was the 17th emir of Zazzau, was a graduate of accounting from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in 1975.

He was also a fellow of the Institute of Financial Accountants (UK) and a fellow of the Certified National Accountants of Nigeria (CNA).

Aminu, who had served as the District Head of Sabon Garin Zaria from 1979 to 2018, had gone to court to stop the coronation of Ambassador Ahmad Nuhu Bamalli as the 19th Emir of Zazzau insisting he was the choice of the kingmakers.

The case is still ongoing at a Kaduna State High Court in Sabon Gari, Zaria.
