Students of the Department of History, Kaduna State University (KASU) staged a peaceful protest on Thursday following the cancellation of their exams.
A student, who does not want to be identified, told Dateline Nigeria how the incident that led to the cancellation of the paper, a core course, started.

“We were in the hall, the class rep and his assistant came to the hall to distribute the exam card to the students that haven’t collected theirs.
“But as soon as they entered the hall, the invigilator sent them out without asking them what they were doing. Then the invigilator said any body without the exam card should go out, one student went out to get the card and when he came back to the class, the invigilator asked the guy to go out again.
“The student did not argue with the invigilator. However, someone in the hall stood up to talk to the invigilator about why the student was not with his exams card and the invigilator asked him to keep quiet.
“The next thing that happened was that the invigilator started calling the security, the Head of Department (HOD), and the Dean, that the students were arguing with him. He said we all were telling him that he doesn’t know how to do his work.

“The invigilator now called the lecturer and the lecturer came to the class and asked all the students to submit their papers and said that the exam has been cancelled,” the source said, adding that the invigilator threatened that “the whole of you will suffer in KASU, I will frustrate this class”.
The protesting students went to the department to complain and eventually to the office of the Vice Chancellor to protest. The VC asked us to bring five representatives and promised to look into the matter.
Attempts to reach authorities at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities failed as they were said to be meeting over the issue when Dateline Nigeria called.
