The registration of police retirees in the North East states into the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) has commenced on Monday, April 12 and will end on April 15, 2021.
Before the exercise in Yobe State, the NHIS State Coordinator Alh. Dabo Ibrahim paid a courtesy visit to the State Commissioner of Police in Damaturu in order to ensure effective preparation of the exercise.
The registration of the retirees is currently ongoing in the Damaturu, Potiskum and Gashua Police Area Commands, according to a statement by Dr. Salisu Hassan, NHIS Enlightenment Division in Yobe.
A police retiree A.S.P. Ibrahim Musa, who came to register from Nguru, said “In the series of the Federal Government Programmes, health insurance is a unique one because during my service time I have been going to hospital with my family at any time when we were sick.
“My wife delivered in the hospital about two times under NHIS. And now I also come to register to enjoy the programme again,” he said.
Also, Madam Munatu Danjuma, wife of a deceased police officer who passed on while in active service, she said “I come to register because it is an opportunity that I will use to access healthcare as a widow.”
She also used this avenue to call on widows like her to come and enrol into the scheme.
