We feel your pains, Andy Uba tells victims of Ihiala fire disaster

The Anambra State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Sen Andy Uba has sympthised with the victims of fire disaster at Nkwo Ogbe market in Ihiala local government area of the state.

Sen Uba said this in a statement he issued on Sunday.

“I just received with rude shock the news of the fire incident that engulfed the Nkwo Ogbe market at Ihiala few hours ago. I am even more saddened by the realization that there was no fire fighting truck or personnel in sight to bring the fire under control as quickly as possible.

“Traders and Ndi Anambra generally deserve better services from their government. The government cannot, in all sincerity, be collecting multiple taxes from market men and women and not provide them with basic fire fighting equipment to protect them and their goods. This is clearly unacceptable and falls below the expectations of worthy citizens from their government.

“I deeply commiserate with the victims of this latest fire incident at the Nkwo Ogbe market, who have not only lost goods worth millions of Naira, but also the source of their daily livelihood.

“Although this sad incident occurred after I just left Anambra for an engagement in Lagos, I hope to pay a quick visit shortly to assess first hand, the extent of damage caused by the fire and explore ways of ameliorating the hardship brought upon the victims of this unfortunate incident.

“I wish to assure the victims and indeed every market man and woman across the state that a new era is unfolding, where government must strive to meet it’s obligations to the people, including preparing for unforeseen occurrences such as the Nkwo Ogbe fire disaster,” he said.
