3 best Agric students in FUD get N450,000 award from Indorama

Indorama Eleme Fertilizers and Chemicals Company, has awarded the sum of N450,000 to three students from the Faculty of Agriculture for their excellent academic performance.

The Zonal Marketing Manager, Mr. Emmanuel Simon who presented the cheque of NI50,000 each to Muhammad Auwal Ahmad, Department of Soil Science, Abdullahi Salisu, Department of Crop Science and Abdulkarim Hussaini, Department of Agricultural Economics and Extension (all level 500 students).

He explained that the scholarship award is part of the company’s effort to discharge it’s corporate social responsibility through strengthen the educational sector.

He said that from the year 2015 to date the company has been producing about three million (3,000,000) metric tons of fertilizer annually but unfortunately Nigerian farmers are using less than one million tons of fertilizer as a result of poverty and ignorance.

Mr Simon added that since the company’s establishment in 2015, Indorama has been hiring extension service workers who are going round all the nooks and crannies in order to create awareness among rural farmers on the importance of fertilizer application.

In his address, the Vice-Chancellor, Federal University Dutse, Prof. Abdulkarim Sabo Mohammed who was represented by the DVC, Academic Services, Prof. Nura Muhammad Sani commended the company for awarding such huge amount of money as scholarship to FUD students who were selected from various departments based on their excellent academic performance.

He informed the company’s representatives the university’s readiness for collaboration in order to boost agricultural activities in Jigawa state and Nigeria at large.

In his remark, the Dean Faculty of Agriculture, Dr. Bashir G. Mukhtar who rejoiced with the beneficiaries commended the Indorama for finding FUD and the Faculty worthy for the scholarship award and also thanked the company for the magnanimity.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Abdullahi Salisu (Level 500) from the Department of Crop Science expressed his deep appreciation to the Company for the kind gesture.
