The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) condemned the Israeli occupation authorities’ approval of the construction of 730 new settlement units in a colonial settlement established unjustly on the lands of the town of Beit Hanina, north of the occupied city of Al-Quds.
The OIC considers this decision a continuation of Israel’s (the occupying power) flagrant violations under international law and the relevant resolutions of international legitimacy on the illegality of settlements, especially UN Security Council (UNSC) Resolution 2334 of 2016, which reaffirmed that the establishment of such settlements “has no legal validity and constitutes a flagrant violation under international law and a major obstacle to the achievement of the two-State solution and a just, lasting and comprehensive peace.”
The OIC called on the international community, especially the UNSC, to assume its responsibilities and compel Israel, the occupying power, to stop its colonial settlement policy and attacks through extremist settlers throughout the State of Palestine occupied since 1967, including the city of Al-Quds Ash-Sharif.
The General Secretariat of the OIC had earlier condemned in the strongest terms the terrorist act of firing several missiles at the city of Erbil in northern Iraq on Sunday, March 13, 2022.
H.E. Hissein Brahim Taha, the OIC’s Secretary-General, denounced this criminal act in the strongest terms and affirmed the OIC’s stand and solidarity with the Republic of Iraq in the measures it is taking to protect its security, reiterating the OIC’s firm position that rejects all forms of violence and terrorism, regardless of their alleged grounds and motives.
