A Federal High Court in Abuja has refused the request of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele seeking to restrain the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) Abubakar Malami from stopping his presidential ambition.
Emefiele’s lawyers on Monday told the court that the apex bank helmsman can run for president without vacating his position.

The CBN governor’s counsel, Mike Ozekhome, told the court that Section 84 ((12) of the Electoral Act as amended, 2022 does not affect his client, being a public servant and not a political appointee.
The court, however, summonsed INEC and AGF to appear before it on May 12, to show cause on why status quo antebellum, should not be granted to the CBN Governor.
Emefiele’s supporters had on Friday bought the expression of interest and nomination forms for him to contest the presidential ticket on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
But the CBN governor said he was yet to decide on running for president, adding that he would buy his own forms should he decide to join the presidential race.
