Gov. Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has congratulated the leader of pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, on his 100th birthday.
This is contained in a statement personally signed by Aiyedatiwa and made available to newsmen on Monday in Akure.
The governor described Fasoranti as an extraordinary statesman, exemplary patriot, revered ‘Awoist’ and one of the founding fathers of Ondo State.
Aiyedatiwa said Fasoranti’s attainment of the age of 100 was not only a rare divine blessing, but also a celebration of a life devoted to service, truth, courage and humanity.
According to him, Fasoranti’s life journey remains a shining testimony to disciplined leadership, integrity and enduring dedication to societal progress.
Aiyedatiwa noted that Fasoranti played a historic role in the agitation and movement that culminated in the creation of Ondo State in 1976.
He said the elder statesman’s sacrifices, alongside those of other progressive leaders of that era, laid the foundation for the development, identity and growth the state enjoys today.
The governor also commended Fasoranti’s contributions to national development, democratic struggles, educational advancement and preservation of Yoruba cultural values.
“Baba has remained a towering voice in national development, democratic struggles, educational advancement and the preservation of the cherished values of the Yoruba people.
“His courage, wisdom, simplicity and steadfast commitment to justice continue to inspire generations of leaders.
“At one hundred, Baba remains a symbol of honour, resilience and selfless service.
“His life embodies the finest ideals of the Omoluabi ethos and the progressive tradition for which our people are renowned,” he said.
Aiyedatiwa prayed for continued peace, sound health, strength and joy for the elder statesman.
He also expressed hope that Fasoranti’s enduring legacy would continue to guide Ondo State and Nigeria towards unity, peace and lasting prosperity. (NAN)
