The Anambra State Police Command has arrested one of two young women seen in a viral video physically assaulting another girl in Umueri, and says it is intensifying efforts to apprehend the second suspect.
The Command confirmed on Tuesday that 19-year-old Chidimma Ogugua is currently in custody following the circulation of the disturbing footage online. Police said preliminary investigations showed the victim was assaulted after a disagreement.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, condemned the act as “cruel, inhuman, and a clear violation of the law,” and assured the public that justice would be served. He also reiterated the Command’s commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of all individuals, particularly vulnerable persons.
Authorities are urging anyone with information that could aid the investigation or lead to the arrest of the fleeing suspect to come forward, assuring that such information will be treated with confidentiality.
The Command said further updates would be provided as the investigation progresses.
