The Anambra State Police Command has arrested three women in connection with an alleged child trafficking syndicate and has launched operations to rescue the trafficked children and reunite them with their families.
The suspects, Florence Nnakuzie, 45, Hannah Ugah, 52, and Chinasa Daniel, 27, were arrested on the evening of 11th July 2026 at a motor park in Onitsha by operatives attached to the Awada Divisional Headquarters.
According to the Command, preliminary investigation revealed that Chinasa Daniel allegedly brought two children — a two-week-old baby and a four-year-old child — on two separate occasions between June and December 2025, and handed them over to Hannah Ugah.
Police said the four-year-old child was later handed over to Florence Nnakuzie and allegedly sold for ₦2,000,000. The two-week-old baby was allegedly sold to another woman who is currently at large.
Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, PhD, described child trafficking as “a grave violation of human rights and a crime against humanity.”
He has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Awka, for a comprehensive and discreet investigation.
The CP also directed operatives to intensify efforts to identify and apprehend other members of the syndicate and to commence coordinated operations to locate, rescue, and reunite the trafficked children with their biological families.
The Command thanked members of the public whose timely information led to the successful operation and urged residents to continue providing credible intelligence to the Police.
This is the latest in a series of breakthroughs by the Anambra Police against child trafficking in the state, the spokesperson of the command SP Tochukwu Ikenga said.
