APC: Buhari backs Giadom as acting chairman

President Muhammadu Buhari has thrown his weight behind Victor Giadom as the Acting National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Presidential spokesman Garba Shehu disclosed this in response to enquiry by some State House Correspondents on Wednesday.

The National Working Committee of the APC had named former Oyo State Governor Abiola Ajimobi as acting chairman after the Court of Appeal affirmed the suspension.

But Giadom, who is seen as an ally of Minister of Transport Rotimi Amaechi, also declared himself as the chairman.

Shehu said “The President has received very convincing advice on the position of the law as far as the situation in the party is concerned and has determined that the law is on the side of Victor Giadom as Acting National Chairman.

“Because he will always act in accordance with the law, the President will be attending the virtual meeting Giadom called for tomorrow afternoon.

“We urge the media to stop promoting manufactured controversies and to not give any further room for mischievous interpretations of the law on this matter.

“In addition to the President, the Giadom meeting will, hopefully, be attended by our Governors and the leaders of the National Assembly.”

The APC is facing crisis which culminated in the exit of the Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki from the party due to political differences with Oshiomhole.
