APM governorship candidate donates ₦21m to Bauchi victims of flood, windstorm

The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) governorship candidate in Bauchi State, Dr. Yakubu Adamu, has donated ₦21 million to support victims of flood disaster in Bara community, Kirfi Local Government Area, and windstorm victims in Shira Local Government Area.

Adamu made the donation during separate visits to the affected communities, where he expressed sympathy and solidarity with residents who suffered losses from the two natural disasters.

In Bara community, the flood was triggered by torrential rainfall from the east and claimed the lives of a grandmother, Aishatu Sagir, and her granddaughter, Rahama Sagir. The disaster destroyed over 360 houses, several perimeter walls, farmlands, and livestock, leaving hundreds of residents displaced and sleeping in mosques and schools.

During his sympathy visit, Yakubu Adamu described the deaths of the two family members as heartbreaking. He announced ₦10,000,000 for victims and ₦1,000,000 for the bereaved family. He prayed to Allah to ease their suffering, reward their patience and faith, and grant forgiveness to the deceased.

The District Head of Bara, Alhaji Muhammad Abdullahi Bara, thanked the APM candidate on behalf of the community. He said the timely intervention would help alleviate the economic and physical losses suffered by affected families.

Residents of Bara praised Yakubu Adamu for the visit, describing his prompt response as a demonstration of compassionate, responsible, and proactive leadership during an emergency.

In Shira Local Government Area, Dr. Yakubu Adamu donated ₦10,000,000 as relief support for families affected by a heavy windstorm that destroyed homes and property in Dango, Disina, and Zubo. Many families were left in distress after the disaster severely damaged their shelters and means of livelihood.

Adamu said he was shocked by the extent of the destruction and shared in the pain of the affected communities. He urged them to see the incident as destiny from Allah.

“Leadership is not only about words but about showing genuine concern, taking action, and responding to the needs of the people when they need it most,” he said.

He noted that natural disasters like windstorms and floods can leave lasting hardship, and called for collective responsibility among leaders, organizations, and individuals to support victims.

Adamu assured the affected families that they were not alone, adding that the financial assistance was aimed at providing urgent relief and helping them begin recovery. He also called on relevant authorities, organizations, and well-meaning individuals to extend support, saying collective efforts are essential for rebuilding communities.

Residents of the affected areas appreciated the gesture, describing it as timely and a sign of compassion. They said it demonstrated kindness, empathy, and responsible leadership, and assured that the assistance would go a long way in easing their suffering and helping them restore their homes and lives.
