Apo mosque committee suspends Sheikh Nuru Khalid

The management committee of the Apo Legislative Quarters mosque has suspended the chief imam Sheikh Nuru Khalid over his Friday sermon.

Sheikh Nuru Khalid had in the sermon accused the federal government of failing to address the rising cases of killings and other security issues in the country.

In the sermon, the cleric said if the government fails to protect their lives and properties the people should boycott future elections.

.”The demand of the common mon is one. Protect us and we will take part in elections. If you fail to protect us, we will not vote, since the only thing government knows is election,” he said.

The chairman of the mosque committee Sen Saidu Muhammed Dansadau said they suspended Sheikh Nuru Khalid because his Friday sermon was capable of inciting the people.

“I hereby convey to you the decision to suspend you as chief Imam of the mosque inside the Apo Legislative Quarters Abuja indefinitely.

“The decision was taken over your Friday sermon of April 1, 2022 where advised the people not to vote in 2023 until politicians answer certain questions.”

The notice said the Imam should have advised the people to go to the polls so as to vote out those that fail to meet their expectations.

The committee has since named new imams, saying Malam Mohammad will take charge of Tafsir, while Malam Abdullahi will lead Friday congregational prayers.

Sheikh Nuru Khalid has not publicly commented on the decision of the committee.
