Atiku backs Nigerian media against anti-free press law

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has thrown his weight behind the campaign by the Nigerian media against “anti-free press” Bill currently before the National Assembly.

The Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) and the Newspaper Proprietors Association of Nigeria (NPAN) said the National Assembly wants to achieve information black out through the NPC and NBC (Media) Act amendment bills.

“I stand resolutely by the NUJ, NGE and NPAN in its campaign against information blackout as represented by the NPC and NBC (Media) Act amendment Bills.

“Freedom of the press and access to information is the oxygen of democracy and must never be compromised,” Atiku said in a post via his social media handles.
