The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Atiku Abubakar and his Labour Party (LP) counterpart Peter Obi have congratulated Dr Ije Akunyili on her appointment as Chief Medical Officer (CMO) at the Jersey Medical Center in the United States.
Atiku, in a statement on his social media handles, said Akunyili’s appointment is “another proof of the excellence Nigerians can achieve in the right environment—this right here encapsulates the core of our vision to RECOVER Nigeria.”
In his own message, Obi said Akunyili’s appointment “shows that nothing is intrinsically wrong with Nigerians.”
“We only need the right environment for our people to achieve their fullest potentials. Let’s take back our country,” Obi added.
Dr Akunyili is the daughter of late former Nigerian minister Professor, Dora Akunyili.
