Bachama paramount ruler Irmiya Stephen dies at 66

The Hama Bachama and Paramount ruler of Bwatiye Kingdom in Adamawa State, Mr Honest Irmiya Stephen, has died at the age of 66.

He died in early hours of Sunday at his palace in Numan Local Government Area of Adamawa State after a brief illness.

This was confirmed on Sunday in Numan to journalists by the spokesman of the Bachama Kingdom, Nzobyalata Hama Bachama, Mr Timawus Mathias.

“Already the funeral rights are well underway according to Bachama tradition in Lamurde, the Kingdom’s headquarters,” Mathias added

The deceased traditional ruler received his staff of office on December 15, 2013, from former governor Murtala Nyako as the Homun Kwirei-Mana Kpafrato II Gbulumbomo. He was the 28th ruler of the Bachama kingdom.

Born in Lagos on March 6, 1954, to the family of Warrant Officer Irmiya Stephen, a prince of Numupo ruling clan, and Mrs Lekoni Irmiya, a princess of Kowo clan, both under the Bachama kingdom.

He was a retired officer of the Nigerian Army (militarypolice), an alumni of the US Army Military Police School in Fort McClellan Anniston Alabama, among others.
