Bandits have abducted over 20 women in an attack on about 15 villages around Gusau, Zamfara State capital, after killing nine men.
Some residents of Geba, Tsakuwa, Gidan Kada, Gidan Kaura and other villages under Gusau told the BBC that the attackers stormed their area on Saturday where they also killed nine men and burnt properties.
One of the residents said in Kura, the attackers abducted 10 women, nine in Bayauri and seven in Gana. “They also entered Duma, where they also kidnapped seven before Sunday morning,” he said.

Some residents of Kura village who escaped said they lost seven people in the attack.
It was learnt that many villages around the capital are turning into ghost towns as residents flee to find refuge in Gusau.
One of the fleeing residents said they are now putting up in Damba area of Gusau.
“We have women and small children, including pregnant women, but we don’t have food. They are also living in very difficult situation as if we don’t have government,,” he said.
Attempts by the BBC to speak to the spokesman of the Zamfara State Police Command were not successful, but the state commissioner for information Ibrahm Dosara confirmed the attack on Geba village, adding that the attack was foiled by security agents.
“There are soldiers in the area and they went to the rescue in Geba. When the security agents arrived, three people were already injured but they dispersed the gunmen,” said Dosara.
